After such a wild winter, even the earth herself seems to be eagerly longing for spring. Can you feel it? The air is humming with growth and change. As if in response, fashion, too, sheds her heavy winter layers and bursts out with brighter colors, lighter fabrics and new designs.

Quick fashion update

Watch for the cold shoulder this season! (Especially if you live somewhere cooler, like Seattle.) One-shouldered tops and dresses are reported to be all the rage for spring and summer. Other emerging trends include color blocking, featuring large bright sections of color, watercolor dresses with their soft, liquid hues and flowy fabrics, and jumpsuits. (Really.) Oh, and don’t forget fringe. Yes, the ode to the 1920’s flapper girl is back! Watch for all the creative ways fringe will be used on clothing this season. Might even beat people watching…

Accessorize to your heart’s content

The most important accessory with be an oversized bag of some sort, whether handbag or clutch. You’ll see hats of all styles and lots of scarves. Also hot will be b-i-g sunglasses! Whether the shape is aviator, figure eight or octagon, whether they’re made of plastic or titanium, it doesn’t matter – they’ll all be big.

And in the jewelry box…

Following the accessories’ lead, jewelry is big this season – literally! You’ll see big rings, big earrings and big collections of bangles.

  • The “statement necklace” is still the defining piece to own. And it’s just the thing to help you shine amidst a sea of fringe and big sunglasses!
  • Recycling has made its way to your jewelry box! More and more designers are dismantling vintage jewelry and reusing the beads in new pieces.
  • In this fast-paced, often impersonal age where items are mass-produced by the thousands, personalized jewelry is becoming more and more popular.
  • An interesting, rustic-but-classy trend that started several seasons ago and continues to pick up speed is using rough-cut gems in place of cut and polished ones.

Best of all for us at EtsyRAIN, a return to artisan-crafted items has been happening for several years now and shows no signs of slowing down. Aren’t you glad? There’s no better way to express your unique personality than by sporting a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted item that no one else owns!
